EvoFIT Cloud Training
The following materials are available to download for EvoFIT use only. Included are instructional videos, to be used as part of practitioner training, and materials to support composite face construction with witnesses and victims of crime. It is recommended that users watch these training videos in the order listed below. Training materials are also provided as a series of PDF documents to download for further reference.
Management System
These chapters describe the online system for practitioner to initiate, manipulate and search EvoFIT composites. It also includes details about system access, composite usage tokens and account management.

- 1
Contains an overview of the two-stage process used to interview and construct a composite with a witness. We advise that you watch this video first.
Welcome: Overview of process (Prep., Stage 1 and Stage 2) - 2
Information and example interaction between practitioner and witness: preparation and face-recall interview.
Initial witness interactions (Prep. and Stage 1)
EvoFIT face construction (Stage 2)
These videos form a set of ordered chapters that describe the online system from start to finish. First, we provide an overview of the function of buttons and menu items (see A. EvoFIT system layout), and set up of the page size (see B. How to set the page Zoom). Then, the recommended operational procedure is detailed.
Chapters in this section include good practice, including the parts of a face a witness should focus on, where on an image a practitioner should click, the speed at which sliders should be moved, when hair should be added, when ears should be considered for adjustment, etc.
(Note that guidance on what to say to witnesses during face construction is provided in a separate section called Using EvoFIT with witnesses (Stage 2) below).

Provides an overview of page layout, buttons, slider controls and menu items.
EvoFIT system layout - 2
This demo starts at database selection and moves to the subsequent page of example faces. Please note that Google has recently changed the icon used to access settings in Chrome (previously had three vertical dots).
How to set the page Zoom - 3
Also illustrates how to obtain information about each page (mouse floatover in Sidebar menu), set the user training modes (novice, intermediate and expert, for witness use) and switch between written names (novice use) and icons on buttons (witness use). The first generation through the system is the first stage to evolve the likeness of the internal features (central region) of the face.
Selecting the face database and face selection in the first generation - 4
As illustrated, witnesses will usually wish to move on to Holistic tools after this second pass through the system – that is, when the internal features of the face have been evolved.
Face selection in the Second generation - 5
These software tools enhance the global aspects of the face. The system steps through fifteen scales in sequence and the witness indicates the position of best likeness for each.
Holistic tools (main scales) - 6
The scales are selected as required to enhance lightness of individual features and regions of the face, as indicated by the witness.
Holistic tools (feature scales) - 7
Both main and feature scales are available for adjustment.
Holistic tools (main and feature scales) - 8
This software tool is used to adjust individual features of the face: eyes, brows, nose, mouth, etc.

External features (hair, hood, hat) can be added once internal features have been constructed.
Selecting the database for hair, hat and hood - 13
Reviewing and altering accessories.
Candidate hairstyles and adjusting the brightness - 14
Illustrates use of the Shape tool for adjusting the ears — as this facial feature will not have been seen by the witness before hair is added. Also indicates how to download the composite face and close the session, to release the EvoFIT server to another practitioner.
Further enhancements and finishing up
Using EvoFIT with witnesses (Stage 2)
These chapters provide advice on the use of EvoFIT from start up to session close. They include suggestion about what to say to witnesses. We also provide advise about witness needs and use of computer equipment for a facial-composite interview.

Written training materials
The following documents in PDF format are intended for practitioners who prefer to have access to training materials in a written format. Each document contains a chapter that can be downloaded for reference and, if required, printed. Practitioners are also invited to download sections from the Supporting materials listed below:

This form can be used to record face recall. Use one printed sheet for each witness. See instructional videos for more information
Verbal description sheet - 2
This presentation provides background information on the self-administered procedure for witnesses to construct the face using EvoFIT. It should be useful for police staff who intend to be present when a witness constructs an EvoFIT composite him or herself.
Briefing on iWitness - 3
This reference chapter provides background information to facial-composite systems and associated techniques.
Review of facial-composite systems
Constructing composites using the standalone (non-internet) EvoFIT system
This training course is designed for practitioners who have familiarity with EvoFIT, such as having constructed composites online (using a web browser) using the practitioner (face-to-face) and / or iWitness (self-administered) systems. The course reviews each stage in the process of constructing a composite for the EvoFIT system installed on a Windows PC or laptop. The final part on Additional system functions provides further training information.
